学术报告:High Frequency Gravitational Wave: the Generation and Indication  发帖心情 Post By:2005/1/14 11:00:58

Thank you, Ms. Chairperson! Good morning, ladies and gentlemen!

I am greatly honored to take this opportunity to make a presentation on my recent work, which is accomplished with my collaborators.

The topic of my presentation follows as “High Frequency Gravitational Wave: the Generation and Indication”. This issue of problem has been investigated extensively in recent decades. All these works have laid a solid theoretical foundation for the existence of gravitational waves (GWs). However, unfortunately, scientists have not obtained concrete evidence of gravitational waves.

In the work of our group, we put forward a much effective proposal of the generation and indication of gravitational waves. We optimistically envision that the existence of gravitational waves could probably be proved with our experiment proposal.

For a better understanding of gravitational waves, I would like to make an analogy to some other waves we are familiar with. If we throw a stone into the water, we would arouse water waves. We talk and hear because sound waves spread. Our cell phones work on electromagnetic waves. Similarly, there is a new type of waves, gravitational waves, which are the fluctuation and propagation of space-time itself. When we are so familiar with other forms of waves, however, the gravitational waves are still under discovery. To discover this completely new type of waves, countries as US, German, Japan, and etc. have invested billions of dollars in gravitational wave detection programs. Several large gravitational wave observatories have been built, and now scientists and engineers are enthusiastically involved in works, although no confirmative results have been reached.

My colleagues and I have worked out a completely new experiment proposal of gravitational wave detection. Our proposal primarily consists of two parts, which are respectively responsible for the generation and indication of gravitational waves. As Einstein’s equation of gravitational field and Landau’s work show that two stars which are rotating around each other, may radiate gravitational waves. It was indirectly proved by astronomical observation. In our proposal, we experimentally simulate the paired stars to generate gravitational waves in laboratory. They are to be detected in the next step.

In our experiment proposal, we fix two light objects oppositely, assumingly on a ring. We let two bunches of X-ray lasers strike respectively on the two objects in opposite directions. Given that the X-ray lasers are adequately powerful, and it’s possible with today’s highly developed laser technology, the objects would accelerate promptly when the lasers impact on them. Therefore, gravitational waves would be radiated along the axis of the ring. The specific expressions of the radiated gravitational waves, which are given in our paper, could be obtained by solving the Einstein’s equation of gravitational field.

Having been generated, the authentic existence of gravitational waves has to be indicated. In the last decades, several kinds of method have been developed, and some large experiments are already in implementation, but no gravitational waves have found. We bring forward a different way to indicate the gravitational waves. Suppose that there is a strong static magnetic field, and a bunch of Gaussian electromagnetic wave (EMW) passing through it. This indicative system is simple but undoubtedly effective. If a bunch of high frequency gravitational wave propagates along the electromagnetic wave, it may arouse a distinctive electromagnetic wave in the lateral direction. The specific mathematical expressions have been given in our paper. They are derived from solving the Einstein’s equation of gravitational field and Maxwell’s equations of electromagnetic field. We suggest that by precisely measuring the lateral electromagnetic wave induced by the gravitational wave, we understand the gravitational wave we are dealing with. As a result, the existence of gravitational waves could be confirmed by our experiment proposal.

At last, I would give a brief comment on the future possible utilization of high frequency gravitational waves. As electromagnetic waves do, I think gravitational waves could one day be used in communication. For their special endurance that is they uneasily attenuate when spreading through space and matter, they have obvious superiorities over electromagnetic waves.

Let me end my presentation by my wish that although I may be crazy when I pursue for natural secrets, I hope my discovery of nature could be beneficial to the society. Thank you.
